Origin of word – “Pasties” are stuffed pastry pies common in the North of England, especially Yorkshire, made with meat or savoury filling. They were among the foods consumed by miners during the Industrial Revolution as not only would they stay fresh for a long time, but they could also be eaten with one hand.

Filling – You can find all sorts of different fillings, such as chicken, lamb, pork, seafood or vegetable .

Size – Pie sizes vary, but a common size is around 10 cm in diameter and 2 cm deep

Origin of word – The word ‘pasty’ dates back to the 1300s and refers to pastries or pies. Pasties were so named because they were filled with meat, fruit or other savor, which were ‘past’ (gone) by the time they arrived at their destination.
